File Base Editor
The file base allows users to transfer files to and from the BBS system to be shared with other users of the BBS, or for System Operators to build collections of files to offer to their users. These files can be categorized into different file bases, which are created and configured in the File Base Editor.
File bases can also optionally be assigned to one or many file groups to further categorize.
Using the Editor
Upon selecting the file base editor, a list of existing file bases is presented. The arrow keys, page keys and home/end as well as your mouse if using a compatible terminal can be used to scroll through and highlight a file base.
Pressing the ENTER key on a highlighted File Base will open the dialog to allow editing of the options and configurations associated to that file base.
Searching within the list of file bases can be done by simply typing the text you wish to search for and the editor will jump around to a matching file base as you type. The CTRL+A key can be used to search Again using the current search text, and CTRL+Y or moving the arrow keys can be used to reset the search text.
Multiple File Bases can be marked using the TAB key which is useful for some functions that can target many file bases at once.
Pressing the / key brings up the Command Menu which contains many other utility functions to add, remove, copy, paste, move, bases (and so on). The following commands are available within the Command Menu:
Command Menu Options
Insert | This option inserts (creates) a new file base before the currently selected file base. |
Delete | This option deletes the currently selected file base. |
Copy | This option copies the currently selected file base. |
Paste | This option pastes a copy of the file base that was previously copied. |
Move Before | This option moves the previously copied file base before the currently selected file base. |
Select All | This option tags/marks all file bases |
Global | This option opens up a Global Editor which allows editing of common options for all file bases that were marked or tagged using the Select All or TAB keys. When using the Global Editor the options that are desired to be changed should be set to “Yes” and the new value entered into the field. Press CTRL+U to apply all of the desired changes once they have been entered. |
Reset | This option allows the currently selected base OR a selection of tagged bases to be Reset, meaning their file listing data and statistics will be reset. It does not unlink echomail subscribers or touch user's personal new scan settings. |
Sort | This option allows sorting of file bases by name, filename, or network address. In order for sort to work a range of file bases must be selected using the TAB key with no gaps in the range of selected bases. |
Unsub By FileFix | This option calculates your uplink and automatically generates an Unsubscribe FileFix request to your uplink, then provides the option to delete the file base. |
Editing a File Base
The File Base edit dialog box contains the following options:
Base Name
- This option defines the file base name as it will appear to the user when they select a file base. Base names can optionally contain pipe color codes.
FTP Name
- Mystic has an optional FTP server which creates a mirror of the file bases for a user to browse. This option defines the file base name as appears to the user (as a directory) within the FTP server.
Echo Tag
- For FTN-style networked file bases: This contains the unique “Echo Tag” of the file base which is used to identify the file base within the FTN-style network. These values are commonly found in a NA file or within a FileFix list of bases.
Network Address
- For FTN-style networked file bases: This contains your network address assigned to the BBS by the FTN-style network this base belongs to.
Export To
- This options up a dialog box which contains a list of all of the Echomail systems that this BBS will send files to. This should at a minimum include your FTN-network uplink when configuring a FTN networked file base. As with other editors the / key can be used to Insert and Delete Echomail systems from the list.
List ACS
- This option defines the Access String (ACS) which the user must pass in order to be able to view, select, and list files from this file base while logged into the BBS.
Upload ACS
- This option defines the Access String (ACS) which the user must pass in order to upload (send) files from their computer to this file base. Note If the “Upload Base” is set in the System Configuration > File Base Settings it will override the user's ability to upload directly into the file base and instead use the File Base set within the settings for all user uploaded files.
Download ACS
- This option defines the Access String (ACS) which the user must pass in order to download (receive) files from this file base onto their computer.
Hatch ACS
- For FTN-style networked File Bases: This option defines the Access String (ACS) which the user must pass in order to be able to Hatch files out into the network for this file base from the File Directory editor/
FTP ACS
- This option defines the Access String (ACS) which the user must pass in order to be able to view and list files this file base while logged into the FTP server.
SysOp ACS
- This option defines the Access String (ACS) which the user must pass in order to access SysOp functions such as the File Directory Editor from within a file listing.
List EACS
- For FTN-style networked file bases: When operating as an network HUB this option defines the Echomail Access String (EACS) that the Echomail node connecting to your system must meet in order to be able to see and subscribe to files file base using FileFix
Data File
- This option defines the data file name that Mystic will use to store information for this file base. This file should be a unique file name, different from all other file bases.
File Path
- This option defines the directory where Mystic will store the files uploaded into this file base and where it will expect to find the files that are available to download from this file base.
Display File
- This option defines the display file that Mystic can display before the files in this base are listed. This field is optional and should be left blank if you do not wish to have Mystic send a display file before each file list.
Template
- This option defines the template file used by the ANSI scrolling file lister and allows a different template to optionally be defined for individual file bases.
Default Scan
- This option defines the default new scan setting for this file base. When a new user logs into the system, their file base new scan setting for this base will be set to the default value here. When set to Yes, new users while have this base included in their scan for new files by default. When set to No the base will not be included in the user's scan for new files by default. When set to Always it will be included and Mystic will not allow the user to remove it from their new scan settings.
Free Files
- This option defines whether or not files in this base are able to be downloaded for free. Setting this to Yes causes Mystic to ignore checking file download ratios and other file download limits (files and KB size) associated to their security level for files in this base.
Slow Media
- This option specifies whether the files in this base are stored on a slow media device such as a CD-ROM drive. When this option is set to Yes Mystic will refuse uploads into the base and will also attempt to copy the file to a temporary directory on the drive Mystic is installed on before sending to the user. This keeps file reading access to a minimum on the slow media device which can improve download reliability, slow media disk life, and download speeds.
Uploader
- This option defines if Mystic will show the uploader's name during the file list at the end of each file description.
FileEcho Hub
- For FTN-style networked File Bases: This option defines if Mystic will allow downlinks to hatch files through the system. In other words any files received from any downlink to this system will not be sent to other downlinks when this option is enabled. Only files directly hatched from this system will be sent to downlinks. This allows the Hub to be the authoritative source of all files that circulate within this file base while still allowing downlink systems to submit files to your system for review and hatching.
Anonymous FTP
- This option defines whether or not Mystic will make this file base available when a connection is made to the FTP server via an Anonymous user.
