====== Purge message bases (by age and max messages) ======

Each message base created has settings that allow a sysop to define a maximum number of messages to be retained ('Max Msgs') and a maximum number of days that messages should also be held ('Max Msg Age').

Since 1 Jan 2020 a [[mystic_knownbugs|significant bug]] has been reported in Mystic BBS 1.12 Alpha 43.

To enable this function you modify the '[general]' stanza as follows:

  PurgeMessageBases  = true

When enabled, the stanza tasks MUTIL with checking each defined message base in Mystic and purging excess messages according to the setting in each base. There are no additional switches available for this stanza.

The use of this stanza is recommended as part of a nightly or weekly maintenance process that can be set up and and run by the Mystic BBS Event Editor.
